Sailm nan Daonie (Psalms of the People) (N/C)

A heart-warming documentary filmed in both Gaelic and English, following a road trip by the film’s lead character, Rob MacNeacail, through Scotland and Ireland, exploring the old traditions of Gaelic psalm singing. The film explores the power of community and the importance of keeping traditions alive in today’s society.

TMF will be joined by the film’s director Jack Archer and lead, Rob MacNeacail, for an introduction and Q&A, and singing-in-the-round workshop over the weekend

1hr 24mins | Jack Archer |UK, 2026 | N/C

Bugsy Malone (U)

This musical starring a brilliant young cast, many of whom were stars of the future, turns 50 this year! Expect pedal driven cars, splurge guns and custard pies in this comedy musical which parody’s 1930’s gangster films set in New York.

Maya, Give Me a Title! (Maya, donne-moi un Titre!) (U)

Maya and her dad, Michel Gondry, live in two different countries. To stay in touch, her dad asks her every evening, “Maya, give me a title”.

Made mostly with paper cut animations, this is a delightful film full of hilarious moments that will make everyone laugh as well as inspired to make their own animated film! Through a very touching father-daughter relationship, Maya, Give me a Title! show us the importance of storytelling in all stages of life, and the huge possibilities of filmmaking. The film was awarded a Crystal Bear by the Children’s Jury at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival in 2025.

California Schemin’ (15)

California Schemin’ is based on Gavin Bain’s autobiography of the same name, which was later re-printed as Straight Outta Scotland. The story of the hoax was first told in Jeanie Finlay’s feature documentary The Great Hip Hop Hoax.

In the late 90’s, Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd had their musical ambitions consistently ridiculed for having the ‘wrong’ accents, so they went for broke and reinvented themselves as Californian rappers.

107mins | James McAvoy | UK/US 2025

Trad (15)

Winner of the Audience Award at the Galway Film Fleadh, Trad is a film about the value of tradition as much as it is about the need to deviate from it. Shona is a fiddle prodigy, who is pulling away from the confines of her mother and the local music scene in Donegal. A spark flies from a troupe of anarchic musicians  and she and her brother soon find themselves on a tour across Ireland’s rural clubs and pubs, a journey neither will forget.

Part road movie, part coming-of-age story, the film features some brilliant musical turns with a star-making performance from Megan Nic Fhionnghaile.

90mins | Lance Daley | Ireland 2025

The Golden Spurtle (PG)

A hilarious and heart-warming film about the Scottish Porridge Championships. Held in a highland Scottish village, competitors get together to see who can make the best bowl of porridge. This documentary follows the 2023 event and shares the story of celebrating tradition and local community events.

A cosy celebration of porridge and its champions The Guardian
